London’s dining scene is buzzing once more: the perfect excuse to head outdoors for some al fresco food. If weather forecasters are to be believed, an Indian summer might be on its way; but, if not, there’s still time to enjoy the last few weeks of lighter nights and milder weather. To help you make the most of it, we’ve put together a list of some of our favourite outdoor dining spots.

The Botanist
If you’re looking for a buzzy vibe in the heart of the City, head over to The Botanist. A favourite with city workers during the evenings, the terrace is open throughout the year – allowing you to catch the rays during warmer weather or snuggle up to the provided heaters during autumn. Either way, you’ll be able to choose a delicious drink to match the ambience: The Botanist’s cocktails are top-notch.

Bentley’s Oyster Bar and Grill
Fans of famous chef Richard Corrigan breathed a sigh of relief when it was announced that his popular Mayfair eatery, Bentley’s, would be re-opening from October 1st. Choose from a table in the cosy yet chic restaurant or a seat outside in their heated, covered terrace (which is open all year round). Typically, diners outside choose from a reduced menu: all the greatest hits from Bentley’s main offering, including seafood platters and fish pie.

Coppa Club Tower Bridge
One thing is certain: for spectacular surroundings, you’d be hard pressed to beat Coppa Club, with its views of Tower Bridge, HMS Belfast and The Shard. It’s also a prime spot for outdoor dining, with an extended roof terrace and private igloo ‘pods’, complete with speakers and sliding doors (which can be hired for a small fee per person), as well as an all-day dining menu.

Dalloway Terrace
For a hint of nature in an urban setting, pick a pew at Dalloway Terrace and marvel at the beauty of this whimsical garden (which is conveniently located a stone’s throw from Tottenham Court Road). Think terracotta pots, overgrown roses, and bags of English charm (courtesy of McQueens Flowers). The retractable roof makes this the perfect place to enjoy a relaxing meal, whatever the weather: dining is available all day, and afternoon tea is served between 3 pm and 5 pm.

The Darcie & May Green Barges
Test your sea legs with a visit to Darcie & May Green. These exquisite floating restaurant and bar barges (which are situated just outside Paddington Station), were specially designed by pioneer of the British pop art scene, Sir Peter Blake. Bob gently on the water and enjoy relaxed Aussie-style brunches, lunches, and dinners with lovely views of the Grand Union Canal. Ahoy!

The Mandrake Cabanas
Al fresco just got fancy in Fitzrovia, thanks to the creation of the Mandrake Cabanas, which are new to the Mandrake Hotel in 2020. Tucked away inside the hotel’s hidden terrace, there are 10 luxurious cabanas that can be reserved for private use. Relax in comfort with a group of family and friends, and indulge in at-seat service, a delicious South American-inspired menu, delightful cocktails, and your choice of visual or audio material (each cabana has its own TV screen and speakers).
