This week, we visited Hampstead to find out what makes the heart of this community tick. From charming residential roads to independent boutiques and pubs full of character, it comes as no surprise that Hampstead has captured the hearts of around 60 thousand local residents, and thousands more visitors.
For those of us that enjoy a wander through new places, Hampstead boasts an irresistibly picturesque aesthetic. Whether you fancy a brisk walk through Hampstead heath in London’s Autumn weather, casual stroll through residential roads or a little browse through the many high street shops, Hampstead has you covered.
Eats & Drinks
The only reason you might go hungry in Hampstead is if you’re taking too long to decide where to go. Whatever the time and whatever you fancy, you can be sure there will be something to satisfy your palate.
The Coffee Cup (74 Hampstead High Street) is one of the oldest coffee shops in all of town, and the place to go if you’re in the mood for something a little less mainstream than Starbucks (also available at 5-7 S End Rd).
On pleasant mornings and warm afternoons, you can sit outside and enjoy a bite at Cafe Rouge (38-39 Hampstead High St) while watching the busy London life passing by. For those of us that enjoy people-watching, this is a particularly great spot to sit, relax and contemplate what’s around you.
Bunny Yawn (84 Heath St) is a gorgeous little cafe to stop and rest your feet while you sit and enjoy a coffee. It also offers light lunch and snack options, suitable for vegans. Fancy something a little more French?
La Cage Imaginaire (16 Flask Walk) is the go-to restaurant for traditional French-Mediterranean cuisine. If it’s a nice day, you can even sit outside on the cobbled street for an authentic experience.
For some seriously traditional and authentic English pub dining, The King William IV ( 77 Hampstead High St) features a sizable pub-grub menu and a charming beer garden.
Live Like a Local
The best part of visiting someplace new is the ability to wander, explore and find your new favourite local spots. With countless beautiful residential and commercial roads, Hampstead is sure to keep you busy.
For those interested in vintage shopping, Hampstead Antique & Craft Emporium (12 Heath St) is a great place to browse through little vintage shops and find some unique items to take home with you.
Hampstead is home to a couple of lovely museums that are certainly worth checking out. Kenwood House (Hampstead Ln) is a former stately home that has now been turned into a museum where you can explore every nook and cranny of the spectacular house, its stunning art collection and the beautiful gardens. For something a little more cosy, Burgh House (New End Square) is home to another local museum and cafe.
