Once a defunct Edwardian train station, Walham Green, this grand (but for decades disused) space has been transformed into a stylish food-hall. The station’s old ticket booth has been turned into a bar serving gorgeous gin and tonics (try the Fulham Fizz) and it has seven kitchens to choose between including Turkish, Italian and Californian-inspired cuisine (good luck). The open plan eating area makes it an excellent choice for large groups, but the building is so light and airy that it rarely feels too cramped or noisy.

No visit to Fulham – and perhaps to London – could be complete without eating at The River Cafe. Often thought of as the mother of Italian restaurants in London, it has many imitators but few have ever managed to surpass its excellence: this is the restaurant that brought real veal, fresh tagliatelle and proper pomodoro sauce to the capital — ingredients now so ubiquitous it’s almost unthinkable there was ever a time Londoners did without. Serving simply stunning Italian food since the 1980s, this hallowed spot proves time and time again its Michelin star is well deserved.

A snug, minimalist cafe just off the high street, the simple but perfectly executed food served here has wowed locals since its opening in 2013. It was a favourite brunch spot of late, legendary Sunday Times food critic A. A. Gill – so don’t miss the gorgeous eggs benedict, a particular favourite of his.

If you’re looking for a touch of Spanish heat on a grey London day, you’ll need to look no further than El Metro. Traditional Iberian tapas, freely flowing jugs of sangria, and live flamenco music make for an electric atmosphere on Saturday nights.
Pubs

A true local’s local, this beautiful pub in residential Fulham is bursting with character. Its stripped back wood-panelling and cosy fire-places give it the air of a country pub – as does its excellent selection of real ales. Although often busy with locals in the afternoon and evenings, it’s usually much quieter than nearby The Prince, which serves a livelier (and much more inebriated) crowd.

The only Michelin starred pub in London, this laidback gastro-pub is lauded for its close-to-divine Sunday roasts. Tucked away down residential streets, it still feels like a well-kept secret, although its well-earned reputation is growing.

This historic music venue has seen some of the best and brightest musicians in the world step through its doors and perform to thrilled audiences. Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix and Paul Simon all played some of their earliest London gigs here, as have, more recently, the likes of Adele and Ed Sheeran.

One of the ‘magnificent seven’ Victorian-era cemeteries in London, this Grade-I listed cemetery is the final resting place of countless historical figures, including suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst. Beatrix Potter was also said to take afternoon strolls here, taking inspiration from the names on the headstones to give her well-loved characters. Still a beautiful spot to take an afternoon wander, the cemetery has a lovely cafe, and the recently restored central chapel frequently holds concerts and art shows.
A hidden garden in Montmartre that is open for breakfast, brunch, lunch and supper. The cocktails are excellent too.
Little London

The original London store of renowned ceramics designer Emma Bridgewater, this charming cafe still provides regular pottery painting and design classes for children and adults alike. You may need to book ahead to avoid disappointment – despite opening over 20 years ago it is, unsurprisingly, as well-loved as ever.

Still a well-kept secret in London despite its many charms, Fulham Palace and Gardens has been the historic estate of the Bishop of London since the Tudor era. Open all year round (free of charge), explore the palace, which still has a splendid original Tudor courtyard, or wander through 13-acres of botanical and walled gardens.
