LA Boutiques

mb

Whether your sartorial style is laid-back-chic (very LA) or high-end luxe, we’re here to point you towards some of the most influential and fashion-forward boutiques in Los Angeles.

Contemporary

CURVE // This effortlessly chic woman’s boutique can be found on North Robertson Avenue, West Hollywood. Run by sought-after LA stylist Nevena Borissova, her boutique store has garnered a well-earned reputation as the place where tomorrow’s trends and looks are born amongst its playful mix of designer and ready-to-wear fashion.

STRANGE INVISIBLE PERFUMES // Everyone needs a signature perfume, and Alexandra Balahoutis is here to make sure yours is deliciously unique. Found off Abbot Kinny Boulevard, this botanical perfumery will craft a scent just for you — or an “aromatic portrait” — based off a personality test and an assessment of your body chemistry. The essences used are entirely organic, and you’ll leave smelling — and feeling — heavenly.

Avant-Garde

CHURCH // After finding its new home on Melrose Avenue, this store remains a monument to all that is truly weird and wonderful in the world of fashion. With a roster of celebrity clients and their achingly cool stylists, Church has been leading the way in the avant-garde since 2009 when the store opened at its original Santa Monica Boulevard location. It’s been pushing those who dwell in La-La Land to make bolder fashion choices ever since.

JUST ONE EYE // If lauded shoe designer Chrisitan Louboutin makes a habit of visiting this store whenever he’s in town, then it’s a habit any fashion lover should start to cultivate, too. Launched by the former artistic director of Maxfield’s — another seminal fashion destination in Los Angeles — this daring boutique-cum-gallery exists to blur and break the boundaries between fashion, art and design.

Vintage v

DECADES // Undoubtedly one of the best vintage stores in LA, Decades is keeping the flame of old Hollywood glamour well and truly lit in the city of angels: its enviable collection of vintage gowns has adorned many a young starlet during award season. Shoppers at the Melrose Avenue store can also expect to find must-have vintage pieces from the likes of Chanel, Louboutin and Versace.

THE WAY WE WORE // With an almost unbeatable collection of vintage, antique and designer clothing, it’s hard to overstate the influence this store has had on the world of fashion and couture since its opening in 2004. Known as the “fairy godmother” of fashion inspiration, founder Doris Raymond and her vast collection have helped to inspire designers from some of the biggest fashion houses in the world. Give this fabulous store a visit on La Brea Avenue.

Fashion Districts

When it comes to shopping, there are some parts of LA that really can’t be missed — so if you’re after some serious retail therapy, you can’t go far wrong with the legendary Rodeo Drive or up-and-coming Downtown LA (unfortunately, we’re not all on Rodeo Drive budgets).

RODEO DRIVE // If you’re after your Pretty Woman moment in this legendary street, you’ll need to be prepared to be liberal with your cheque-book. This is where only the most luxurious brands reside; big names like Chanel, Gucci, Prada and Tiffany’s. Of course, window-shopping is free and can be just as good for the soul. Lovers of architecture and design can visit Anderson Court, the only shopping centre celebrated American architect created, and the last building he designed for the city of Los Angeles.

ROW DTLA // Well on its way to becoming the destination for fashion and design in the city, this former industrial complex offers an excitingly curated mix of boutiques, high-end stores and hard-to-resist eateries. It’s a wonderful spot for those looking to do a little browsing while watching the bright and the beautiful of LA go by.

Art & Design

HOLLYHOCK HOUSE AND BARNSDALL ART PARK // Recently named as a UNESCO World Heritage site, this masterpiece of 1920s modernist architecture was one of the first Frank Lloyd Wright Designed in Los Angeles. Created to be part of a performing arts complex for oil heiress Aline Barnsdall, the incredible hilltop site is now open for daily tours following an exquisite and painstaking restoration. The attached park grounds also offer views of that most iconic of LA landmarks, the Hollywood sign, which you can spot proudly nestled in the hills.

LACMA // The wonderful collection found at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art deftly celebrates the vibrant and diverse culture that makes the city great. The history of the collection held here spans almost a millennia, from ancient times to the modern-day, and attracts almost a million visitors annually.

Rooftop Bars

After a hard day of searching for the best fashion-finds, you’ll need a little time to recuperate. Do it in style with a drink in hand at the chicest bars in Los Angeles.

MAMA SHELTER // Heralded as the best rooftop in LA, one look at the stunning views across the city makes it hard to argue otherwise. Welcoming, relaxed, but with a buzz, come here to sip a cocktail or two with a friend as you watch the sun sink behind the hills.

SPIRE 73 // For a drink at the tallest open-air bar in the Western Hemisphere, it’s time to head Downtown. Spire 73 offers a live DJ, hand-crafted signature cocktails, firepits and of course, incredible views over LA.

WellbeingB

Dubbed the “world capital of wellness”, is there anything more in-style in Los Angeles than looking after your health and well-being? Make sure you’re feeling your best while enjoying the city of sunshine and smiles.

WANDERLUST // With meditation and yoga becoming an inextricable part of the Los Angeles lifestyle, there's a multitude of studios and styles to choose from in the city. Our favourite is Wanderlust in Hollywood; for relaxing studios, events and an accompanying cafe, head over to release your inner yogi.

CAFE GRATITUDE// Cafe Gratitude not only offers a delicious menu of vegan and vegetarian food but also an opportunity to reflect on how thankful you are to be in Los Angeles, and not the Central line at rush hour; each dish is named after a life-affirmation, which you’re encouraged to repeat as you order. With eateries in the Arts District and Venice, enjoy their excellent range of guilt-free delights and friendly, prompt service.
