Kensington has quite the patisserie scene, welcoming many hungry patrons with a mix of French or Portuguese snacks. What could be a better way to end your day after exploring the many other areas the neighbourhood has to offer?
AUX MERVEILLEUX DE FRED
The owner of this wonderful French patisserie really is called Fred (Frederic Vaucamps) and his reinvention of this traditional French treat really is wonderful. They’re light, airy, meringue-based creations topped with deliciously flavoured cream; coffee, chocolate, hazelnut, yuzu and cherry are just a few of the varieties on offer. Despite having dozens of locations in Paris and across France, this South Kensington location and their Northcote Road shop are the only places in London you’ll find Fred’s exquisite take on the merveilleux.

ORÉE
A pleasing range of patisserie is available here, all delightfully picture perfect and as delicious as they look. While we wouldn’t necessarily recommend taking a seat (it’s not terribly comfortable and they charge you extra for the convenience), it’s a wonderful place to stop off for a quick coffee and pain au chocolat in the mornings, or to buy a box of treats for your host as you make your way over to dinner.

CAFE DE NATA
After taking in all the museums of the area, you might find yourself a little peckish. Why not indulge in a sweet treat of Portugal’s finest creation – the Pastel de Nata. Heralded as the ‘best custard tarts in London’, Cafe de Nata, situated just next to South Kensington station, will hit the spot.
